The Project
Objectives
The TOPMED project aims to internationalise recruitment at Politecnico di Torino, by attracting students from the following Mediterranean countries (*): Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Libya, Morocco, National Palestinian Authority, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey particularly from the following partner universities:

The Mediterranean area is, together with Latin America, considered the main strategic area for international development. The current level of cooperation and academic mobility between Italy and Mediterranean/Middle East area is not sufficient if compared to the educational potentials and the common political and economic interests. In this context, the TOPMED project trained professional figures will contribute to further integration since they will be positioned in sectors with high level of skill shortage on an international scale. TOPMED graduates will be carriers of a culture and of ties between the Piedmont/Italian environment and that of Mediterranean/Middle East area and will contribute to the promotion of future collaborations in strategic sectors of the new globalised world economy.
TOPMED project therefore aims at the creation of a Mediterranean human and technological network that has the following objectives
- Harmonizing training activities
- Encouraging dialogue among the different cultures of the Euro-Mediterranean countries
- Promoting mutual understanding and the sharing of expertise and educational experiences related to higher education in the field of Engineering and Architecture
- Creating an integrated Euro-Mediterranean area in scientific fields by asserting a bicultural character of the education
- Answering the needs of Euro-Mediterranean companies confronted with competition on a global scale, and obliged to internationalise recruitment derw
To achieve these objectives, prior to TOPMED, Politecnico di Torino launched together with Mediterranean partners, the MED NET'U project within the framework of the EUMEDIS European Union programme.
EUMEDIS (Euro-Mediterranean Information Society) is the biggest programme launched by the European Commission to foster the development of the Information Society in the Euro-Mediterranean Area.
In this context MED NET'U aims at the creation of a Euro-Mediterranean human and technological network for open distance learning, at university and continuous vocational training level.
Among its specific objectives we can identify the following
- To launch a process of harmonisation of the Euro-Mediterranean educational and training systems through the adoption of a common psycho-pedagogical model
- To create a common technological platform to carry out distance learning and teaching processes
Academic offer
In order to achieve these objectives, the TOPMED project promotes students exchange between the Politecnico di Torino and Mediterranean area countries by awarding scholarships and other facilities. Admission to the TOPMED project is open to students coming from the following countries (*): Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Libya, Morocco, National Palestinian Authority, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey only.
The project concerns the following levels of study:
International admission to Politecnico is very competitive. In the last four years, 224 international students participated to the ALPIP project (the equivalent of the TOPMED project for Latin American students) from a pool of about 2.700 applicants from 24 countries.
